Celtics Show Depth in Game 1 Victory Over Mavericks

Boston Celtics defeat Dallas Mavericks 132-100 in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals

The Boston Celtics took an early lead in the 2024 NBA Finals, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 132-100 in Game 1 on Tuesday night. The Celtics' depth proved to be too much for the Mavericks, as five players scored in double figures, led by Jayson Tatum's 27 points. Luka Dončić led the Mavericks with 30 points.

The Celtics got off to a hot start, leading by 10 points after the first quarter. They extended their lead to 18 points in the second quarter and never looked back. The Mavericks were able to cut the lead to 10 points in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics quickly responded to put the game away.

The Celtics' bench was a major factor in the victory. Jaylen Brown scored 21 points, Marcus Smart added 17 points, and Derrick White chipped in 15 points. The Celtics also got strong contributions from Robert Williams III and Al Horford.

The Mavericks were led by Dončić, who scored 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting. However, the rest of the Mavericks' offense struggled. Spencer Dinwiddie scored 17 points, but he was just 6-of-16 from the field. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 15 points, but he was just 5-of-15 from the field.

The Celtics will now have a 1-0 lead heading into Game 2 on Thursday night. The Mavericks will need to find a way to improve their offense if they want to even the series.
